Lu Flux

April 12, 2010

My good friend Lynne introduced me to her mate Lu’s label Lu Flux recently. Based in London, she is making a bit of a name for herself with her line of recycled, salvaged and organic clothing. Her design philosophy is also rooted in ethical trading, and she tries to use sustainable or fair trade concepts where possible. As she states on her website: “the aim is to make something new out of something old, so as to consume less and reduce waste”. I for one can still remember the days when ethical fashion meant substance over style, and I’m really pleased to see that there is a very strong design statement in her AW10 collection. I like an ethical clothing label to intrigue me style-wise first, then the ethical aspect comes as a nice bonus afterwards. The tiered patchwork dresses are masterpieces, but I also love the simple trousers with the dramatic cape-like jacket. And they must have had so much fun building that massive cardboard castle set!
